Collection consists of diaries from 1908-1909, when Greeley was in charge of District 1 of the Forest Service, and 1917-1918, when he was commanding officer of the Forestry Section, 20th Engineers, A.E.F. The correspondence and documents, 1931-1955, concern affairs of the West Coast Lumbermen's Association. The collection includes manuscripts of Greeley's books, articles, and addresses. A biography, William B. Greeley (St. Paul, MN, 1961) by George T. Morgan, is based on the Greeley papers.

William Buckhout Greeley was a graduate of the Yale Forest School and began his career in forestry in 1904. He was Chief Forester of the U.S. Forest Service from 1920-1928.
